4 Tips for When You’re Tired All the Time and Have No Energy
We all get tired. And while we all have those times when we need to step back and get some serious rest and relaxation to rejuvenate, if you’re chronically tired and stuck in a rut of fatigue, it’s not just a matter of being sleepy.
Chronic tiredness or fatigue is when you feel drained of energy much of the time on an ongoing basis. It’s an important distinction from feeling unrested on certain days after not getting enough sleep. We all have to slug through sleepiness sometimes, but fatigue saps our energy and motivation to tackle each day and just generally keeps us from our peak performance and enjoying life.
If feeling worn down and without energy or enthusiasm is a continuous problem for you, here are four important tips to start turning things around:
Expend Energy to Generate Energy
You have to give to get. Yes, this principle applies to energy too. The less energetic you feel, the less energy you tend to expend. But this is part of a cycle that feeds off itself, because the less active and less motivated you become, the less energy you generate. Conversely, when you push through, making yourself get up and get going, your energy and motivation build.
Make a Plan to Spend Your Energy
Devote your energy to a plan. When you give, you have a goal. You donate money to a cause or time to some objective, for example. A target provides your motivation, and the same goes for your energy. Create a routine and set goals that guide when and where your energy is directed; watching your plans succeed trigger you to feel greater drive and renewed energy.
Exercise in the Morning
The importance of physical activity can’t be overstated. It burns calories, boosts metabolism, gets your heart and respiration rates up, promotes a healthy body weight, and gets endorphins flowing. But it also makes you feel better about yourself, your day, and your life, and it’s motivating and energizing to cross such an important item off your to-do list first thing in the day. The many physiological and psychological benefits of exercise continue to pay dividends over the course of your entire day.
Stay Well Hydrated
Drink more water. We’re approximately two-thirds water. It cleanses us, helping flush out bad metabolites in our bodies, and it hydrates us. Being properly hydrated is essential to generating energy. Skip the sugary products like energy drinks and sodas, because they’ll just make your blood glucose levels spike and crash, further sapping your energy. Water is the basis of life, and your body needs it. One of my favorite waters is Essentia water because of its pH. It’s alkaline water and a great brand that I drink all the time.
